  1. If it is piped to your house it is almost always the cheapest way to heat it, cheaper than oil or electricity.  Unless you have access to free firewood or have a house built to run on passive solar heat.


  2. Nope, It costs more to be extracted and there is less of it.  Fossil fuels are the most efficient: there is more of it, less technology needed and because its so frequently and widely used we don't need to build more plants.

  3. Natural gas is a fossil fuel.

    If you are close enough to a source that transportation is not too expensive, natural gas tends to one of the MOST "cost efficient" sources of energy. If it does have to be transported beyond pipeline range, it gets a little more expensive, but liquefied natural gas is transported in bulk, so it may still be a viable option.
