Our cage is 32 in. tall and 15 and 11 in on the sides.

Our cage holds:

-two parakeets (who are starting a little romance)

-five small perches (that came with the cage) all along the sides

-a jingly climbing toy (maybe 4 in) hanging from the yop

-a food toy (maybe 6 in-8 in) hanging from the top

-a mirror (one of my birds loves it!) hanging from the top

- a small food dish with a honey bar on it

-two water dishes

-two seed dishes

-ladder

-branch-perch

Is our cage too crowded? Do you think I should add anything or take anything out?

  1. you said:

    take out three.

and leave in the wooden branch(:

    that should do it.

  2. If you look at it, and it seems crowded it probably is.  15 x 11 is a fairly small cage for 2 parakeets and all those perches and toys. I would upgrade to something 18 x 18.  Probably cost 70-100 but will give your keets much mroe room.  You also will not need 5 perches 3 is a better number adn try to have perches that areof different size and texture.  Plus you will only need one water dish, and one food dish.  As long as you refill it everymorning and as needed in the evening they will only need one dish.

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pr... This cage really is a great value and decent size.

  3. Always provide the largest cage you can for your birds, keeping in mind the spacing between the bars. Just because they're small and fit into those cute little bird cages, doesn't mean it is best for them. It's unfair to keep them in an area where they can't spread their wings fully, or walk around. This can also lead to injury if they don't have enough space.  When you look at their cage, does it seem over crowded to you? If so, get a larger cage, especially considering you have two birds together in the same cage.

  4. You either need a bigger cage or to take some of the stuff out of the cage. You don't need five perches, two to three is plenty. You only need one water bowl and one food bowl. You can also take out the food dish with the honey bar on it, they don't need it.

  5. If you have to ask, then I would say yes.
