  1. If you live close to a Ocean or a Lake I would get one. But, If you live quiet aways from those areas. I wouldn't really suggest in getting one. Not only that you would have t store in a Marina during the Wintertime.

  2. Owning a small sailing boat is a good idea if you are under 10-15 km away from lake or sea and you plan on boating more than 5 times per summer

5 meter sailboat for 4 persons cost something between 3000-6000 euros.

place for it in marina costs 100-300 euros per summer

winterplace for it 100-200 euros per winter.

renting a boat like that is 50-100 euros a day

figure it out from numbers what is best for you.

I strongly advise you avoid all "syndicates/groupownerships". Youll only end up paying for others tuning ideas and their friends "repair services". in addition, youll end up fighting who gets to sail on best summerdays and who gets the rainy days. in final, youll end up selling it and fighting about who has maintenanced it more and who gets bigger share of the money.

  3. If you just want to sail sometime why not look at joining a syndicate? Many boats are owned by five or six people, they share all the maintenance and mooring costs and also share out the use of the boat. Try asking around at your nearest yacht club(s) for starters.
