Is polyurethane an oxidizing agent?

can xylene based sealer go over polyurethane coated wood? Would there be a reaction or is it ok msds for xylene says avoin oxidizing agent so>>>> any guesses

  1. No, polyurethane is not an oxidizer.

    Polyurethane is a polymer based on the monomer urethane.  It is pretty unreactive stuff.  And xylene is a solvent -- the same solvent as in magic marker permanent marking pens.

  2. Oxidizing agents need to be pretty powerful before they will react with xylene.  Probably they are talking about things like chlorine, bromine, ozone, etc.  Nothing in polyurethane will react with xylene.

    If your wood is already varnished with polyurethane, why do you need a sealer?
