Question:

Is "Going Green" just hype? ?

I am so sick of hearing of "going green" It is really a trend more than anything, something for people to make them feel they have control over something.

I am not willing to change my lifestyle. It is a God-given right to accumulate as much wealth as possible through legal means, and live as comfortably as possible. I don't advocate waste, but I would not turn off my A/C or live in a grass hut and compost my own toilet waste. Yes, let's use flourescent lights, Mercury is really healthy for the environment. And we all know that water-saver shower heads make us take LONGER showers.

**** Green. I love nature, but I love convenience and comfort too. And by God, no socialist or government is going to legislate my lifestlye for me.

We are in an inter-glacial period. It will get warmer, the ice caps will melt, and then we will enter into another Ice Age. It is how our planet works, we have no control over it. If you don't believe me, look in any Earth Science text book.

  1. Did you hear about the Love Canal Tragedy?

  2. First lets address the God-given right. God told Adam it is his responsibility to take care of his creation, read Genesis. In Revelations it says those who destroyed the earth will be banished. So lets give credit where credit is due, it was our government and our society that leads you to believe you have the right to accumulate weath, and it is our government which allows actions to be legal that is to the detriment of our life support system.

I don't have any idea if Global Warming is true, it doesn't matter to me. I strive to live a sustainable life, I have all the modern conveniences, I am just not as wasteful as the Average American. Gas prices have almost tripled in 8 years, if we continue in this trend we are looking at gas prices of around $10 a gal in 8 years. If you are driving a gas hog how are you accumulating wealth. I've been driving a hybrid for 6 years and I have found ways to reduce the miles I drive. I spent $10 more a month on gas this year compared to last year.  I have solar panels so as electric rates increase I'll be putting that money in the bank.

I don't think our goverment is brave enough to legislate what needs to happen to clean our air and water. I think that the rising cost of energy and food will do more than laws can. We know that if gas goes over $4 a gallon people will drive less. We know that more people are cutting packaging to save money at the grocery store, more people are growing some of their own food.

Just go on your happy wasteful way and we'll see who is spending their retirement enjoying life and who will be budgeting to feed their SUV and electic meter.

  3. Now see, I thought "going green" was spending twice as much for half the amount of ineffective cleaners, and over-priced but "healthy" organic food.

I'm waiting for the day environmentalists and other anti-human groups start eye-balling important medications as "not green enough" say Interferon, or insulin.  Or maybe surgical procedures that are not "Earth-friendly."  And they drive their Ford F-350's, Excursions, and Chevy Suburbans to protest marches to prove it.

  4. Take a good look at that Earth Science book. Notice how much land there is to live on? Well, you and all your friends and all their children will be squeezed onto a whole lot less land.

Now I prefer the alternative of limiting the number of children we have, rather than say "let's just kill all the cows so there is enough room", or cats, or dogs or rabbits.

Now, I don't even have A/C but I am not ready to come turn yours off, perhaps you could turn it down, just one notch. The God that I believe in did not put you on earth to destroy it. You are the caretaker, not the master of the earth.

  5. Libs live in a world of doom, gloom and fear. Global warming is one of the biggest propaganda campaigns to come along in 50 years. The Libs can give their money to their God Al Gore. Me, I'll keep mine.
