  5. Having a Masters Degree in Education I would sadly have to say YES!

    They are either a private run or state run institution of higher learning not guaranteeing anyone with a job when you leave the institution.

    you provide them with $$$$ they provide you with classes and teachers.  When you finish you receive a paper certificate stating you have earned the degree ...

  6. A school is just about the only type of business that tends to work against its own paying customers.

  7. The answer is yes. They provide a product (degree) and services (libraries, advisors, facilities etc), generate revenue (tuition and fees) and have expenses (salaries, electric bills etc).

    Some schools, and they exist all over the world, not just in Illinois, are decidedly 'for-profit' enterprises. These schools also pay income taxes. Even the public or private non-profit and not-for-profit schools need to have a balanced budget.

    In some cases, students ARE seen as numbers, which is usually seen as a bad thing. In some large public universities, they dont use financial projections, but the tenured faculty can be more interested in their research to actually teach.


  8. Somewhat.  A lot of schools are run like one (which is sad).  It does in someways have to sell itself to those that can afford private schools.  In Illinois they have stadards that students must pass or people will get fired.  In some ways schools are a lot like business.
