I'm bored this summer and I thought it would be really fun to go scuba diving with my brother and friends but I'm lacking the motivation to start scuba diving. Should I start? Is it worth it?

  1. Scuba diving is a expensive sport.  It takes alot of motivation & a true desire to dive.  It is a lot work just to get out and dive.  You first have to make sure that you get air in your tanks, then you have to get to the place you want to dive.  There is alot of equipment to wear & it is a chore just getting suited and ready to go.  first a wet suit or dry suit which can be a chore just getting it on. Then strap 20-25lbs of lead on, your bc vest, tanks, regulator.  After all of that work you are finally ready for a 30 min. dive.  To me it is all woth it because diving is fantastic, but you really have to want to do it otherwise it won't seem worth all of the effort.

  2. yes start it

its amazing underwater and you feel free when your under

im going to start my certification this summer

but i know the above from freediving in florida

  3. If you don't feel that motivated then do snorkeling, and not the dinky type. Get some good gear (many places sell a fin/mask/snorkel combo, but go for the sets ranging over $40--I recomend US Divers brand)

Go snorkeling and go with scuba divers. If you watch them, you may start to want to do it too. Otherwise snorkeling is good. I prefer it because there is more free movement and you get a lot of speed. If you have good lungs then you'll do fine.

(Remember, snorkeling is not about staying at the surface. Go under and explore. When you come up, blow hard to get the water out. A good quality snorkel will shoot the water out in two directions (front and back) and even will empty itself if you just hold your head above water.)
