my parakeet has had his right foot up all the time. i know what it looks like when they sleep and this is not it. when he does have his foot down it does not have a very tight grip on the perch as the other one. i dont know what is going on because i never saw him hurt himself.

  1. Yes there is something wrong with his foot. Maybe someone has stepped on it, or maybe he once got it tangled on something and got it out but still hurts. You really won't know the real answer but if you go to the vet, they have a 50% chance of knowing what happened and a 80% chance of helping him. If you don't have the money or time, than, there's really not much you can do. Other than letting him just rest his foot. Don't make the poor little thing walk or anything, it might make it worse. I don't know for sure, but anyways good luck with whatever choice you make. Hope the best for that little guy.

  2. I'd take the little guy to an avian vet for evaluation.  He could have something wrong with his foot or he could have some neurological problem that's interfering with his grip on that side.  A vet will be able to tell you with some certainty.
