Will it be in the olympics in 2012?? I love the sport, and I was wondering why people think it's not a real sport.

  1. yes, it has been a sport for a while. o, and person who says it isn't a sport, are u serious? it takes a whole bunch of athletecism. can u use only ur arms and tread water upside down going up and down while spinning, and then fling urself in the air 5 feet while in water, and corkscrew in air, then flip another person in air, while never touching the bottom? i think not. it is just the same as rhytmic gymnastics (and if u say that isn't a sport, can u touch ur head to ur butt???? huh) seriously, when it takes as much skill, determination, and strength, PRACTICE, and perfection as gymnastics, it is a sport.

  2. yes it is a sport. It takes an incredible amount of strength, endurance and flexibility as well as everything in between, to compete synchro at a national level. there are lots of reasons why some people think it is not a sport. Ignorance is one. but there is also the argument that it shouldn't be in the olympics because of the way its judged, or because of its artistic values like dance. you can consider it a sport or an art, either way its a very demanding athletic "activity".

  3. yes, it is a sport :] i like it too! they had it in the Beijing Olympics i dont see why they wouldn't for the London Olympics. I think their reasons for thinking it's not a sport is because maybe they think they don't use 'team work' or that there's no contact. I don't know, but you're competing against other teams, it has to a sport!

  4. Yes synchronized swimming is a sport. I personally am a synchronized swimmer and I have been for eight years. This sport takes so much dedication and time to make everything look easy. I remember when I first started swimming on the team, it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life. If you think about it, above the water everything looks nice, when a swimmer's head in above-thier legs are burning by the speeds they are kicking under the water. When their legs are in the air, they are not only moving them but holding their breath, moving their arms to support themselves, keeping balance (extremely hard) and staying on a precise tempo. If one swimmer is off, the whole thing looks wrong. Practicing for this sport also requires cross training--running, ballet, gymnastics, speed swimming (yes we do laps)-- at the collegic level, they train even much much more for than 6+ hours EVERY DAY.

It is a sport. Others think so too -- I recall that many basketball players were upset becuase they missed synchronized swimming and admittedly said that it was a hard sport.

  5. I'm sorry but it is not a sport. Once you get out of basic things like running, jumping, swimming, fighting and gymnastics you are no longer in the sports realm.

Synchronized swimming is just a combination of gymnastics and dancing. It's just kind of a made up sport like trampoline jumping, synchronized diving or curling. Yes it requires strength and skill, but so does building a house. Is it a sport? Why don't you just run a hundred yard dash then fish. Would that be a sport too?

Nothing against it. Just not a sport.
