Question:

Is tai chis good exercise?

As i have always wanted to try it and now seems like a good time and i was just wondering if it is good exercise

  1. yes! you have to go super slow and so u get super tired.


  2. Yes, tai chi is good exercise because it forces you to constrict your muscles.

    This is surprisingly hard to do for long periods of time.

    I don't think it is as good as other martial arts however, because you are missing one key component, which is reaching your target heart rate.

    If you are looking for martial arts purely for exercise, I would suggest something like cardio-kick boxing.

  5. I have practiced tai chi for two years before having to stop for various reasons (mainly lack of time to attend lessons). I had managed to come to grips with three different styles and belive me, it is a VERY good exercise. I also like to walk for about an hour a day. During the time i practiced tai chi my balance and strenght in my feet was so much better then now. I can hardly walk as fast or as steadily now.

    I am trying to practice the short form (at least) to get the strenght in my leg muscles back.

  7. The target rate theory has been debunked by the same doctor that that developed in 1970. The reason is people's target rate is different, its' not necessarily based on  age.  If you were to use low stances and move slow (like they always do) you can get a great work out. It's very dynamic and powerful. It can be used for self-defense, but your talking a lot of yrs. Good Luck :)

  8. It is more to do with mental exercise than physical. Tai Chi is also a part of martial arts. I leaned this in Wushu. So, it is like a meditation....

    Mentally, yes tai chi is a very strong exercise. Physically, well... there are stronger once out there. But still I think tai chi is a good one by experiance. (My friends like hard stuff...)
