Question:

Is the Dominican Republic like Cancun?

I've been to Cancun three times mainly for the nightlife and clubs. But my friends and I want to try a different place with the same atmosphere. Does anyone know if DR is like Cancun?

NO... the Dominican Republic is like the Dominican Republic and Cancun is like Cancun.  For one thing, you will be speaking a lot more Spanish in the D.R. than in Cancun because Cancun was designed and built as an AmeriKan destination.

You are very aware that the D.R. is a REAL country and a poor one, at that.  You can take the inter island ferry over to San Juan when things get too dull in the D.R., though.

I don't know, but the tourism website says its got lots of clubs for dancing

They are different, I like D.R better. Although there is more party life in Cancun. Depends what you are looking for.

not really... went to punta cana last year, went to varadero cuba this year.. try there.. was crazy fun.. huge parties all the time!

Hi Maria,

There are no two identical places in the world. You want to look for something different? Go to Puerto Plata (north coast) of the Dominican Republic, nice resorts, very good night life in and out of the resorts, a lot to discover and to experience.

Town is 10 min away from the most resorts by public bus.
