Is there such a thing as a moonless night - if so then where has the moon gone?

  1. Thats called an eclipse. The moon goes directly in front of the sun. The sun reflects light off the moon if you didn't already know.


  2. Yes. During the new moon or "dark moon", when the moon is closest to the sun, then you can't see it in the sky, you can only see a sliver near dawn or sunset. But most of the ngiht it is on the wrong side of the earth.

  3. The moonless night occurs at least once a month.  It's called the New Moon.  The Moon then "waxes" until it reaches the Full Moon; wherein it "wanes" to the next New Moon (ie roughly every 28-days).
