Is there a retrograde for ssi?

i was told that ssi will pay the time you have waited for their decision if you qualify... my friend wants to know

From the date you filed for it-5months<<<<<<<<<<<ADDED>Quoted from My letter from the Social Security Admin. They also with hold 25% of any back pay if you used an atternoy to help you file your claim and apeals!

From the first month following the month you apply.  Sometimes it may take years with denials and appeals but you will get back pay for all of that time.
