in brewing your own wine. I just mixed hot water with yeast and fruit to make very simple wine. Im not sure if the bottle was sterile and so is there any big danger of drinking it(after i strained out the foam and waste fruit)? Now there is always a risk but im just wondering if brewing alcohol made it even worse.

  1. LOL - Well, depending on how long you have let it ferment you will almost defintely have some kind of bacteria in the...we won't call it wine...gunk. So try it - But it will very likely taste like sh*t - I don't think you'll want to drink enough of it to make yourself sick though...lol.

And by the way...if you didn't specifically sterilise the equipment / bottle then no...it won't have been completely sterile. But technically speaking as soon as you add yeast to the mix it becomes unsterile anyway...Yeast is a bacteria.

  2. Should be okay to drink. The alcohol, yeast (actually a type of fungus, not bacteria), and high sugar content (from the fruit) make the wine very inhospitable to pathogenic organisms.

I had a college professor who told us that when he was in college, he used to ferment wine on the heater in his dorm room. I think you should be okay.

  3. Yes there is danger to drink water with wine
