that i can get my horse registered in my name. he is tattooed and im going to do the tattoo research, but after that can i get him in my name. he has been passed around so much that i know his papers were lost somewhere in between the 10 homes hes had previously.

  1. Very, very unlikely and probably very costly, unless you can locate the last owner to have the foal papers and persuade that person to transfer them to you.

    The problem is that although a tattoo can tell you who your horse is, tattoos can be faked or misread and aren't necessarily conclusive proof of identity.  Also, The Jockey club will be reluctant to issue duplicate papers for a horse unless you can prove that you have clear title and ownership, which may be difficult.  

    If your horse is a gelding, why would you need the registration papers?  The only practical reason for having them is if you intend to breed the horse, which of course is a moot point for a gelding, or if you want to race him.  Showing a horse doesn't require registration papers.

    If all you want to know is your horse's pedigree and racing record, you can get that without having the registration papers.  Good luck!
