Saat Phere shows Saloni a dark skinned Indian looking girl and her fate as part of a family which are light skinned, the mother preferring her son to the whole family and the sister to her. The synopsis says the story is about her as she battles against society stigma to become what she truly is. She often gets blamed or cursed for things or has suspicion placed on her and she often has to find her way out of things a bit like the A-Team.

This to me represents the struggle of a dark skinned girl in general in the business of TV because for most roles dramas in India aswell as South America the 'not looking indigenous' people take the parts in these ordinary family based dramas. Why is this? and does this represent the racial division in society at large?

  7. Of course,  how many fat, ugly models have you seen on the catwalks.

  8. Ever seen an ugly newsreader, or a fat weather person, no for sure.

  9. Discrimination can be based on all kinds of things:

Disability, age, s*x/gender, sexual orientation, etc.

It doesn't necessarily represent the racial division in society at large- at least I like to believe so. It represents racial division in a minority of racially-minded, simple people.

I'd assume that there are a lot of light-skinned people or non-indigenous looking people in these dramas, because that is the similar audience they're trying to attract, or because the people producing the show are of a similar race or because they are those racially-minded people.

In reality, it is hard to ignore the dominance of some racially-minded and racially-oriented marketing. The best we can do is try to educate others about it, and live our lives the correct way.
