Question:

Is there something odd about this?

I've noticed that I've been talking to myself lately. Now, I don't mean like, "Come on, Kevin, you gotta get going" or anything like that. More like, I see someone in my head, and I start talking to them (and they with me). I can have full conversations, and I won't even notice that I'm talking to no one.

Is that odd?

  1. ...Jazz, the good thing is, you recognize that you are talking to a person in your head and do not see it as a "real" person.  But, I agree, it is odd enough that you should discuss it with a professional...

  2. before I got diagnosed (and later medicated) with bipolar i would do that ALL the time.  I rode my bike to work and the whole way there i would totallly have a conversation with myself.  as in, i would participate in both sides of the conversation.  this was/is something that happens in manic cycles with me.  i only noticed that i was loudly talking to myself when i would get around people that would look at me funny.

do you have swings from depression to these episodes of talking to yourself?  you should talk to a professional (obviously this sort of thing could be serious), but you should document how you feel when you're doing it.  are you paranoid?  are you unbearably cheerful?  how about the days and weeks on either end of these episodes?

dont' count yourself as schizophrenic just yet.  i'm pretty sure there are some other things that can trigger that sort of behavior.
