I'm working on my third quilt and while sitting and stitching it crossed my mind, is there special stitching to be doing? Also, one of the patterns (fabric pattern) has balls on it and I'm just quilting the balls, is there special knots to tie in the thread when I start and stop the balls?

(Balls can not be joined in stitching).

  1. If you are asking about the piecing of the blocks, quilters use a 1/4 in. seam allowance with the machine set at 2.5.

For quilting the layers together  a small running stitch is used..

Check a quilting book out at the library.  The end is knotted and sunk between the layers.

  2. Your stitches should be as small as possible. The answer given by the other person will still apply other than the machine stitch size. You would tie and bury your knots as mentioned.
