Hi guys i wanted to ask do you think Shaan is a good name, it comes from a indian hindu culture, it means pride, loyal & luck.

It sounds exacely like the name sean or shawn, but its is just spelled different.

So is shaan is good name?

I like the name for its meaning; however, my only concern is that it would be mispronouned constantly. (ex: Shane)

I like the meaning behind it.  It's wonderful.  Just be mindful that people are going to constantly spell it wrong and those who can spell it may ask you if it's Shane.  I do like it though!

SURE. Sean is a decent name, if you want to spell it different to change the meaning, go for it.  But it will probably get mispronounced most of the time because even though I didnt see an E at the end I though Shane instantly.  But I like it>

I initially read it as "Sh-ann" or "sh-ane".  I never would have guessed it sounded like Sean.

I love the pronunciation but not the spelling. I think he would constantly have to correct people.

Although I see it's an Indian name without knowing that it sort of comes off as trying to be Kre8tive and changing the spelling of a classic (ie- Madyisson, Abbygale, etc) which sort of detracts from the appeal for me.

I remember a schoolmate named Shahan (a variation?). He's Hindu. It's supposedly a really meaningful name, he said.

My thoughts on the different spellings is that if it means something personal to you/your religon/your culture, then fine, go with it.  But if you are doing it just to be different, don't.  The kids going to have all kinds of issues if, just for kicks, you add extra vowels to a name, or throw in a silent x, or even worse, a little ` above a letter.  Adolescence is tough enough.

Yes that is a lovely name but there is also a welsh name - Sian - which is adorable but is sounds like - Shaan not Sean but actually the way Shaan is spelt!

That is really a great name - really! My favorite part about the name is its definition. My second favorite part is the origin of the name, and my third is the unique, different spelling. Nice meaning, but your child will have to always specify their unique spelling.  Could be annoying after a while.
