Is this a new virus?? ?

my computer just went spazz...a pop up saying my firewall was down,then my whole pc froze...next thing I know my whole background is white and I have antivirus software installed that I didnt install and it wont allow me to remove it...its called Antivirus XP 2008

also I tried to log off and back on and there was a new log in icon on my homepage that was an 11 digit number that I didnt put on,but was on there as a computer administrator

has anyone had this virus? and how the heck do I get rid of it

This PROBLEM rogue program is all over the internet, infecting hundreds of computers.

This is one of the worst trojans out there right now. Probably derived from carelessly downloading on limewire. it is extremely difficult to completely remove. This thing actually spawns a registry once you get it.

if you have acces(and if you caught some other buggers that usually come with this one you may not) Follow these steps.

1. End the process AV08.exe in your task manager.

2. Delete any file in your start menu, any folder with the name program with the name or even icon with the name Anti-virus 2008.

3. Reboot and hope to get lucky, this is a tough one and you may need to seek help from someone with more exp.

its not new and its evovling. Its almost impossible to get off sorry. Best bet is to buy a new computer.

What the h**l?? People saying you need a new computer sheesh. First off NO it's not a virus.  You have what is called a common spy-ware issue.  You may have a down-loader also if your computer is installing software you didn't choose.  Something as simple as X-Clean Micro edition took care of mine.  Also run some kind of Lavasoft AdAware program. All are free and can be found on www.download.com Also the x-clean can be found at www.xclean.com

I just got rid of that nasty little bug for someone.  It hijacked their browser, stayed in their system tray, and put shortcuts on the desktop, start menu, and quicklaunch tool bar.  It took a while.  I downloaded malwarebytes antimalware onto a thumb drive from my computer.  Did a system restore (start > all programs > system tools > system restore) to an earlier date before they were infected.  Installed the antimalware, ran a fast scan, removed malware, updated the program and did a full scan & removal.

Copy files onto USB drive

Wipe computer

Install better antivirus and wait more than a month before opening saved files.

Antivirus XP 2008 is fake, malware. do the following

Download and install anti virus and anti spy ware from links below they are both free and very good.

Update your Anti Virus and Anti Spyware

Turn off System restore

Start Computer in Safe Mode

Scan with Anti Virus and Anti Spyware

After scan is finished and you have deleted the Maleware

Restart computer set a new restore point and delete all previous points.

Rescan with Anti Virus and Anti Spyware.

If you do not have Anti Virus or Anti Spy Ware I recommend Avast and Spyware Terminator. Both are free.

i havnt had that virus

but i had one that took over my pc and i couldnt control it and my msn was sending random msg to my contacts. dont use ur credit card or anything on ur pc as it may try and steal ur password :S and 4 getting rid of it you may need to uninstall windows =O and reinstall it to rid it of any virus

antivirus xp 2008 is a rouge program that is just trying to con you out of money. It is a virus in itself and gives you false warnings to try and get you to part with your hard earned cash.

You can remove it by installing and running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It is a free program and will remove it for you . If you try clicking uninstall antivirus xp 2008 in add and remove programs it will not do anything to help you. Be sure to run a 'Full Scan'.
