Is this bad golf ettiquette?

Is it bad golf ettiquette for a beginner golfer to tell a more experienced golfer that his pants are going to tear whilst he is teeing off? Is a little joke not allowed on the golf course? Is golf a serious sport or a "fun" sport?

  1. It really depends on who you are playing with.  In general when a person is teeing off, one should remain to the side and quiet.  That said there have been times I am out golfing, and betting, where the point is to be obnoxious.  The best advice I can give is ask playing partner before you start.

  2. Barring a hazardous situation, you should be completely quiet while another golfer is teeing off and stand out of their line of sight.

Golf is a fun sport, but proper ettiquette is an integral part of the game.

  3. MEN HUMM I think next time you should hide in a bush (like on Jack ***) and blow a horn when he is teeing off.  LOL NO NO just kidding my dad is a golfer and they do get serious.  I would wait until someone else cracks a joke first.  or if they are allowed to drink on the course what until at least the 5th hole.  Good luck with your golf game I wish I didn't suck at it.

  4. Proper etiquette on the golf course is a moving target as there is a different social dynamic within each foursome.  I might tell my buddy that but I wouldnt tell someone I just met that, especially during competition.

  5. You are allowed to make a little joke now and then while playing golf, but not while teeing off.  The golfer could get quite distracted and mess up his shot, so I would definitely say it is bad etiquette.

  6. its is supposed to be a fun sport , people just take a game , too seriously . it is a adult form of pick up sticks . if you told me that one i would be in hysterics . for some reason golf , a game brings out the worst in people . the stress they place on themselves ridicoulus . if people would just relax treat it as game , have fun there scores would improve . i hate to say it ,most people would be upset . why? i cant answer , thanks

  7. I'm assuming you did this? Golf can be a fun sport but if somebody is trying to focus while they are teeing off you really shouldn't talk...at all during it. And making jokes or trying to distract them certainly is NOT good etiquette.

  8. a little joke is ok but not while teeing off, depending on the golfer thay could get quite upset if you distract them at this point

  9. It depends on how well you know your "fellow-competitor".  I have played with some guys for years and there is a constant stream of trash talk - but we all know it is just for fun.  If I was in a tournament with someone I hadn't met before I would never joke at all.  Then there are many degrees inbetween just depending on how well you know the person.

  10. Depends on who you play with and where you play, your friend seems more of a social golfer and should try and play with fellow social golfers.

Most of my friends are very avid golfers and I had to learn through experience who of them I could play with and who not (I'm a social golfer and golf course clown), some of them take it far too seriosly becoming upset at the drop of a hat or slightest breach of the standard rules, defeats the point of sport which in my opinion is for relaxation, others play to my game and those are the golfers I would still play with and share a whiskey and laugh with back at the club house.

I'm a pathetic golfer anyway, prefer playing the "pitch and putt" courses and try not to go more than a shot or two over per hole.

  11. Yes, while on the tee.  You can joke all you want after any shot has been taken whether it is on the tee, in the fairway, or on the green.
