I'm just starting to become a vegetarian and my Mum says I can no longer eat certain breads, so is this bread suitable for vegetarians?

The ingredients are:

Wheat flour, water, yeast, spirit vinegar, soya flour, vegetable oil, emulsifier (mono- and di-glycerides of fatty acids), flour treatment agent (ascorbic acid).

If this isn't suitable for vegetarians can you give me a list of brands of breads that are?

  1. If your not an ovo-lacto vegetarian, avoid anything with eggs and/or dairy products in it.

    Edit:-

Answer above:- Some animals like being food??????? Did THEY tell you that?

  2. The only bread you would have to worry about is those made with eggs , of which many store bought ones are safe . These types of breads may have a shiney surface .Ovo vegetarians eat eggs so in this case you would be Ok .  I was a Lacto vegetarian so I could eat products with dairy products but no eggs .  I am now a Vegan so eat no animal products .

  3. I think this bread is vegetarian, however if you are unconvinced, try and look for the "Suitable for vegetarians" logo.

  4. YES

    Totally suitable

  5. just as long as it doesnt have any meat products in it its okay.

  6. HUH?  I think she might mean breads with butter or eggs in them. But that would only be for vegans.  Really strict rules for eating.

Just eat healthy. Don't get all silly with vegetarianism.  Some animals like being food. That is the purpose.  Just be respectful of the source, whatever you eat.

  7. Mono- and diglycerides may come from plant or animal sources and the only way to be sure is to ask the manufacturer.  The easiest option is to find bread made without them (or bread that specifies that they are from plant sources.)  Many breads are not vegan because they're made with milk, egg or honey, but most are suitable for lacto-ovo-vegetarians.

  8. They are unless you put a roast beef or a ham in between them..

She may be referring to eggs which for some vegetarians is also a no-no
