My friend has an Ipod Touch 8 gbs. and he does't have a wireless router but his internet works fine but its a little slow why doesn't he need a router?? please answer I need help

He might be stealing his neighbours wireless internet considering you need to connect to a wireless source, so I'm assuming he is using the internet connection from his neighbours and it probably is a little slow because he is farther from the router than he should be. Hope that helped :)
