Question:

Is this situation a fraud?

My cousin called me one day to ask if he can have a check under my name and sent to my home. He didn't clearly state the reason for this strange situation, only stating that the money is needed for his business.

I didn't think much about it, because...well, he is family. But as the days past, I began to think otherwise..

I mean, why would he have a check under my name? Is there something wrong with just placing the check under his own name? People tell me that what he is doing maybe illegal....I have no idea.

Please help me! I don't know what to do.

I know I must sign the check...but is it safe to do it or is this another fraud?

  1. You basically gave him your checking account. Watch out if he starts issuing checks under your name, and faking your signature.

Sometimes, you have to be careful even if they are your family

  2. Do you mean he is using a check from your checking account to send money to someone, or do you mean he is going to receive a check made out to you instead of to him that you will have to sign in order to get the money?

Your question is worded rather vaguely.

  3. If you gave him a check it doesn't matter if it is blank or signed - you account number is on it so he could use your account. Hopefully your cousin isn't trying to s***w you over - but unfortuantly it happens sometimes. Especially if people are in trouble or doing drugs - they don't care if you are family, they will cheat and steal from you anyway.
