Now we didnt drill into alaska because of petitions and environmentalists right? Ok well my dad tells me since we didnt do it some other country did(russia or china i think) and they didnt even do a safe job, they probably did more damage to living organisms over there then we would have done. Is it true!?

  1. Neither Russia, China, nor any other country has started drilling in Alaska (assuming you're talking about the Reserve).  If some country did that, they would be invading the USA and that would spark yet another war involving the USA.

This COULD happen, though (in quite a few years).  As you know, a huge majority of the world runs on gas, petroleum, etc., and when that runs out, invasion could happen.  And since the USA is the USA, an invasion here would be pretty unlikely, but if they're desparate enough, and we don't get to it by then, it, once again, COULD happen.  And seeing as how it seems that no one (except Iceland) is really, really trying to create a change in how they get their power, what you speak of is a possibility.  A little farfetched, but nonetheless a possibility.

  2. Not yet, but it could happen.  What would stop Russia, China, or other countries from drilling in the Arctic?  And if they pollute the waters, what could we do?

We chose not to drill off the Florida coast, so Cuba jumped in and took the oil we wouldn't drill.  Now there's oil rigs and less environmental protection because we didn't want oil rigs and possible pollution.

    So what did we gain?

  3. you need to separate drilling in Alaska from drilling in the arctic.

Alaska is sovereign US territory, and Russia is not about to drill there.

however, global warming, and the arctic ice melt has made more areas in the arctic accessible.

there is currently a frenzy about which country has what rights to the arctic oil that is thought to exist.

  4. your dads right. its called slant drilling & it can be done from international waters.

China is drilling under the Florida straits from Cuba right now.

& Russia has been prospecting under the north pole area for the last 2 years.
