You see Georgia goes to war with Russia, then Ukraine gets involve (as you probably have heard on the news). Then a number of allied nations fight other nations which are allied with other nations. Also Thailand a strong ally with the U.S. might invade Cambodia and end up forming a small empire in the Asia Pacific region (as you probably know there is current stand off because of some ancient temple), Are these events hinting another world war. Remember, the last two world wars were caused from alliances between nations.

  1. None of the major countries of the world are the slightest bit interested in fighting wars. None of them are willing to throw away the lives of their young men over something that can be solved otherwise.

  2. Probaly.

  3. well well fartlegs,,see u at skool tmr.

  4. Imminent?  It's already here, people just refuse to believe it.  This time the other side is a religion's fanatical followers who refuse to allow an alternative to their view of the world.

  5. Look at the patterns......Relate Russian invasions of Georgian territory to the German invasion of Austria.... Everyone seems to be a little on edge about everything.. ask me, whos public enemy number 1? is it terrorists? Politicians? Superpowers? Nuclear weapons? Or apparently is it Russia? tooo much hate people... WWWIII is coming, when is not a for sure but the tensions are building and God knows these  selfish and immature leaders of these countries neeed to vent. Just remember, always second doubt bias media and stretched stories. Yahoo news is not a good source for information FYI. Watch the patterns unfold in the next 5 or 50 or 100 years.

  6. No

  7. it is unlikely that there will be war, u see the world is developed these days...and I don't think that such issues would lead to ww 3. The other point u talked about (thailand and cambodia), i don't think is a really important issue there. Thailand had a coup not too long ago. this, made the cambodians smile.

  8. I don't think so. The complex system of alliances and guarantees that ignited World War I doesn't really exist today (nor does the tensions that were to eventually lead to war or the people's hunger for war at the time), and WWII was an extension of those conflicts fueled by ideologies of the 20th century (Fascism, Communism, etc.).

Statistics show that the world is more peaceful than it's ever been and the total number of wars taking place at any given time is decreasing. (See references) What has changed is the explosion of media in the 21st century, and every small conflict is magnified much more.

As far as war spreading around the globe, I just can't see it happening. Countries of the world don't seem to be eager for war, rather now it's something to avoid (high economic costs, etc). In fact there are economic pressures to avoid war now, as it is a threat to prosperity. I am talking about large-scale wars and not smaller conflicts of course.

  9. When Russia invaded Chechnya or Kosovo started everyone said the same thing. What is your standard? Only superpowers or large GNP countries fighting who hold nukes? There are at least 20 wars going around the world at this time, so this means the world is at war and that's nothing new. I guess Iraq and Afghanistan isn't enough, nor Dafur or Sri Lanka and Burma. But when Europeans fighting (even though Georgia is in Asia)? WW3 always comes up....

  10. I think it will happen some day. It really can't be avoided. With everybody fighting over their own beliefs and that or that piece of land its bound to happen.
