Is xp sp3 beter than vista?

According to benchmarks by Tom's Hardware, XP is 2-38% faster when it comes to games.

I upgraded twice since Vista last year. I remember I wanted to bring files home, using a 2GB flashdrive, so I zipped music/pics/documents and some installer software to make a 1.8GB zip file.

Come home, unzip to desktop in Vista - around 18 minutes. I repeated this experiment after UPgrading to XP a while later, and got it done in 8 minutes. Now I can do the same job, it takes around ten seconds - and I'm still running a 32bit desktop - but this time it's Ubuntu. Now I keep XP offline, for games, as a dualboot option - disabled networking and most services, no antivirus or other background stuff.

Don't listen to the other fools, they're just pathetically trying to justify whatever operating system they're scared to change out of. The only VALID reason for keeping windows is the games. Vista is ok for that, and so is XP.

Ubuntu is your best upgrade.

Xp sp3 is way better just wait like for a year or less and then switch back

Well, XP will ofcourse be alot faster than Vista in terms of running applications and games. Vista's interface is not really user-friendly and unless you have a powerful PC, with at least dual-core and 2gb ram, it'll be too slow to be run on standard PC's.

To be honest it is not Vista is a far better operating system, how ever there are certain conditions you need for Vista to run properly.

You are better off with a dual core 64 chip and 64 bit operating system, I run 8 gb of memory and I do not have any problems.

If you are running 32 bit Vista then you need a minimum of 2 gb of memory with 3 gb maximum as 32 bit Vista will not see more than that amount of memory.  If your pc is more than four years old replace it as it will not be able to run vista properly. on Ebay you can buy a good machine for as little as £ 250.00

well, you hate vista but you dig gaming.  Remember that all of the fancy things in vista can be dummed down to look just like xp, that said i would say NO.  Vista(especially ultimate x64) if not for all the cool things you can do with it that you cant do without paying for programs in xp, then for the simple fact that DX10 gaming rules.  I think ive played 90% of all the dx10 games out and i would sooner hang myself then go back to dx9.

   Recently, microsoft did an experiment called mojave.  They took people that disliked vista and repackaged it into a box labeled Mojave Beta .

  The guy posting below suffers from "hacked copy of vista syndrom"  The updates have taken care of the usb drive issues.  Though personally i think it was limited to certain brands since i never had that problem.

  To the guys that say xp is faster at gaming, well that isnt very relevant when Vista can do DX10 and xp cant.  You will want a good powerful machine for sure.  I have a dual boot of xp64bit and vista ultimatex64.  Each os is mounted to dual 500gb raid zero arrays (all identical drives).  I run dual 8800gtxoc2's, 3.5ghzc2d,8gb of pc8000, and an xfi platinum.  When i compare xp to vista I compare the convenience of each as well as the speed.

  The last testing i read on tomshardware indicated that after sp3 and vista's sp1 that vista had moved ahead in speed for gaming.  That was using decent system though.  I wouldnt take a xp2500+ and a 6800ultra with 1gb of pc3200 and expect to like vista at all :-P
