Im a little confused about this koto form

can someone explain and give examples-(beginner japanese learner when giving examples can you put it in english too please thanks)

Koto form is the same as basic form.

"読みます" is a polite form of "読む"

"読むこと" is "読む" + "こと"

Like the example of "読みます",

"聞く" is the basic form of "聞きます"

"見る" is the basic form of "見ます"

nani ka ii koto atan desu ka? Did something good happen?

Koto used with a verb makes a preceding clause function as a noun.

Eigo wo manabu koto wa omoshiroi desu.

It's interesting to study English.

Oyogu koto ga suki desu.

I like swimming.

"Koto ga aru" is a little different in functioning.

Koto ga aru means, "sometimes that happens."

Ano kazan wa kunka suru koto ga aru.

Sometimes that volcano erupts.

Koto ni naru= to be decided that...(this follows a verb that's not past tense)

Ani wa asatte suppatsu suru koto ni narimashita

It was decided my older brother will leave the day after tomorrow.
