Question:

Jealousy in the "teaching" section?

I've always known that some areas of business are highly competitive but I've never realised that this was the case for the teaching profession too!

I mean all those who vote for "no best answer" when a question goes into voting, although very often some excellent answers have been given.

I've been observing this trend for quite a while in here. Is it a "strategy" to spite and discredit the more knowledgeble colleagues and prevent them from being chosen as the best answer?

I've never seen this in any other section of Yahoo! Answers and I'm active in quite a few others.

Has anyone got any comments on this?

  1. haha yes, I've know quite a few school teachers in my time.. and some of them (SOME!!!) seem to start picking up character traits of the children.

For instance my mom was a teacher and they all decided to club to buy milk. BUT because once a term (4x per year) one random person would not have to buy it, they all insisted that the only solution was to have two separate people buy half a pint every day!! WHAAT!!

there is no way that that was not a direct result of being around kids' petty squabbles for too long! all that mission cos it's "unfair if johnny doesn't have to pay too!!"

  2. I think you should take a step back, and just listen to yourself. You talk about being competitive, and childish, when that is exactly how you are behaving!!!!!

I have noticed your best answer percentage, and that is way too high to be real. The only way to get a percentage like that is to trawl through old answers that haven't been decided, and to vote for yourself.

I believe that is how you have noticed this trait, and you've rather exposed yourself by posting this question, otherwise, how would you know?

You should get over yourself, stop behaving like a child wanting to be the best in class, and definitely stop cheating.

  3. I think you are overly sensitive and overreacting. I don't bother to attend to the things you are obviously paying attention to but there are people who vote for the one point they get and don't really care.

  4. Well here i am trawling through the questions and Ive noticed yours.  I wouldn't be at all surprised.  Ive known a fair few teachers in my time and I have a couple of them in my immediate family.  I can assure you that teachers are more than capable of being as you describe, some are downright bitchy!  separate camps in the staff room, back biting, gossips.  Its a shame, but alas they are only human.  The biggest b*****s Ive found are actually male teachers as has been demonstrated superbly in some of the answers you've received (ok only TOBY and i agree Im only assuming he's a teacher, I wasn't going to name him but hes overreacted so outrageously I couldn't help it).

  5. Some of the people that vote no best answer feel that if the answers they have to choose from don't mirror their sentiments, the answer is wrong.

    Just my opinion...
