Question:

Jury duty postponement?

I was summened for jury duty but I am going to be out of state and on a non-refundable vacation on this date. I filled out the form I was supposed to that was sent with the summons letter. I also included my own letter telling them that I will be out of state on that date and why. I am so worried that they won't excuse me. This trip was so expensive to plan and I just can't see how they can make me show up when I really can't. What are the chances of my letter actually being reviewed and considered? Plus, will they respond to me by mail to let me know if I have to go?

  1. Where I come from, you get one postponement. I just did that a few months ago--got summoned and wrote back telling them I had a trip planned for that date. The form asked when I would be available for service. I indicated a date. I got a notice in the mail that my summons was postponed, and then I got a new summons for the alternate date I had indicated.

And THEN ... my panel was never called :-)

I don't know whether the rules differ from county to county, but that's what happened to me.

  2. My daughter wrote a letter to excuse her and they wrote back saying it was ok but they will be summoning her soon.

When the next time came around she forgot all about it and did not go, thank God,  nothing happened.

The third time she was summons, her number was not called. This all happened within a year.

She was 19 at the time.

To answer your last question. It's  a very good chance they'll write you back soon and excuse you, this one time.
