Jury duty promblem?

my wife just started a new job and then she recived a summins for jury duty and she showed it to her boss and he said you can get out of that because you just started a new job all you have to do is tell them that and if i have to i will right you a letter and you wont have to go has anyone heard of this and is leagal we leave in cleveland ohio

  1. It's not super easy to get out of jury duty.  The boss will have to write a letter stating how her being absent for 2 weeks from her new job would be detrimental to her future career.  Because she is newly hired, maybe have the boss mention that she would miss the training necessary for her to perform her job duties.

    Or if she can demonstrate that the absence would create undue financial hardship (for example, if her job is based on commission or if her employer will not pay her while she is out).  It is not a law in Ohio that an employer has to pay wages while an employee is out on jury duty.


  2. if her boss writes her a letter and says he can't give her the time off work, that's usually good enough. If it's not, then it's up to the boss to explain why

  3. I hope her new employer reimburses her for lost wages while she is on the jury.
