hi there, I'd like to merge two ADSL to use them at the same time. Now, I've heard about the load balancing... is this the only solution without involving the ISP?

Low end routers have no method for load balancing two WAN connections.  Most high-end ones don't either, but there are ways to load-balance outbound traffic using a routing protocol.  

This is not a trivial task.

Load balancing is just the what the method is called.  You can do this in many ways.  First, using one as an always on, and the second as a backup.  You can do this through your router depending on what kind of router you have, but basically setting your default value for one route to be one less than the highest value, that means that when the other route goes down it gives  a 1 higher then the allowed values and the information goes to the second route.  This is the most likely way.  The way you suggested, load balancing, is involved but manually controlling it.  You can do equal load balancing and just give them both the same cost.  There are many different ways to do this.  Check it out with CISCO they are the authority for routing.
