I just got this new kitten today from my moms co-worker. I don't know how old he/she is but she's hiding in my dresser. I put food and water out for her. But is this normal for her to hide. i only had cats never kittens so i don't know what I'm suppose to do. Were remodeling my house so there's a lot of clutter. But she is currently in my dresser.

Any advice....

  1. wait for it to come out.

  2. totally all cats are  shy when their in a new place just wait and don't try to grab it a lot  wait for it to come to you and cause your remodeling you could put in in a cage

    my  cat is named kitty

  3. You should move her somewhere where she wont be able to hurt herself. It is normal for her to hide. Kittens are easily frightened. Allow her time to get to know you and her surroundings and she will become more comfortable.

  4. Give her time to get used to her surroundings.  She will come out.

  5. YES IT'S NORMAL.SHE WILL COME OUT,AND GET HER CLEAN UP AN AREA FOR HER

  6. It's perfectly normal for a kitten to hide when they first get to their new home.  Everything's pretty scary for her right now (new people and new surroundings) so she just needs some time to hide until she figures out that she's in a safe place.  When I first got my cat one year ago, she spent the entire first day hiding under my bed.  I just left her alone there since she wasn't in harm's way, but about every hour or so, I went in the bedroom and peeked under the bed to talk sweetly to her so that she'd get used to my voice and my presence.  By the end of that day, she cautiously came out from under the bed but I didn't approach her.  I just talked nicely to her until she came up to me and then I petted her and continued talking to her.  Eventually, she figured out that nothing bad was going to happen to her and she became very comfortable in her new home.  You did the right thing by making sure that your kitty has access to food and water.  Now you just have to wait patiently for her to come out of the dresser when SHE decides it's OK -- don't pressure her or you'll scare her even more and she'll hide for even longer.

Good luck with your new kitten.  I hope it's a long and happy relationship!

  7. She's probably shy/scared. When I first got my kitten she was 8 weeks old and she stayed in her carrying cage thing for a while. Just let her warm up to your house and get used to it. My cat still hides all the time. Our house is usually pretty loud so when she needs sleep she goes in the oddest place.. under my bed, in my closet, on the dining room chairs, etc. Just give her time to get used to this new enviorment! (:

  8. It is absolutely normal for her to hide. She's scared and in a new environment. Be patient with her and give her time to adjust. If she decides to peek out, don't pounce on her or get too excited. She needs to do things in her own time.

  9. Just give her some time to adjust. You might also want to watch the vids in the source link about caring for a new kitten. Good luck with your new baby!

  10. buy a cat tree aka scrtching post and put it in a room that you are in alot if you can put it in a sunny place.

  11. She is hiding because she is scared, or feral. I am sure she's just scared, and the way to get her used to people is to take her out and gently pet her, and keep her warm and snuggle. Over time, she will love you. Also, get her a litter box and start litter training her, and show her her food and water, and she will become right at home.

  12. It's normal if it isn't used to people.  Give it time and lots of attention.  Pet it so that it purrs and it will soon be your friend.  You need to find a clean quiet place for her away from the remodeling and clutter.

  13. not really sure but she might be a little scared of her new surroundings. me and my gf got a kitten a month ago, and for the first few hours we brought her home she kept trying to hide somewhere. maybe you should try to pick her up and bring her outside. pat her a little and put some water and food infront of her.

playing with her might make her feel more safe.

    hope this helps.

  14. If she's brand new I would say it's normal for her to hide for a while until she starts feeling comfortable. She may just be very shy. Just let her come to you and she will see that there is no threat involved and that she can trust you.

  15. yes it is normal. our kitten ran up the back of the couch and stayed. she will come out on her own. start out with the food as close to her as u can get it. then slowly move it closer to you. (each day) she will start to trust you.

i have 2 tabbys and a black kitten with green eyes. my beagles love them like their kids lol

  16. kittens like safe spaces and unfamiliar things freak them out just give her some time...maybe pet her and reasure her and in no time she'll ajust

  17. How cute... nice warm snuggly place to hide.

It's scary being a small kitty in such a new big envionment!

I would get a carrier though and put a nice blanket / towel in it so she will have a cozy place.  Place her in that so she knows it is HER place to be... rather than your dresser.  Otherwise later she will constantly go to your dresser when she wants to nap or hide.

Put her in the closet so she feels safe.  put her sand box and food in there. close the door.

or If you have a bathroom that you can use for her ... put a note on the door not to use this bathroom.. that way she won't run out and escape.

She is just scared right now.  She doesn't have her siblings or momma to look out for her.

    good luck

  18. Kittens are very timid and dont understand whats going on. It's very normal for her to be nervous and is hiding from you. Just put some food and water by the dresser and give her some time to get used to your house and the people around. Just be patient and everntually she will grow on you and be out and about. Any othe questions feel free to ask im a total nature freak and know tons about animals.

  19. Give her some time to adjust. She will come out on her own. Every cat I've ever had did this. (well w/ the exception of one but he's overly friendly for a cat!)
