Just watching the Olympic Pentathlon.?

the horses look half wild and not good at jumping, explain please as it looks almost cruel.

Yes I agree. Why are so many falling or refusing the conditions look terrible I think it should be halted for the sake of the horses.

I noticed all of them were wearing just an average snaffle wen some of them looked like they might need a little bit more. in all fairness they do have about 1/2hour to ride there horses that are randomly piked. but these competitors dont care about the horses they  r only init 4 the medal they absolutly beat there horses around the corse of jumps. i saw 1 guy pullin the horse up as he was goin over the jumps so it knokd like everthing down. they could have been a bit nicer to them even if they didnt know them. Oh and y do they get 28 penalties 4 knoking down 1 jump i got confused lol

They get those horses to test the ability of the rider. Modern Pentathlon mirrors that of the skills of a warrior; a warrior in teh old days during war may have had to swim, run cross country, shoot the enemy, sword fight the enemy, and jump on a random horse to pursue or to flee. They use those types of horses to mirror thta, and to judge who really is the best at the sport. You think that random horses a warrior jumped on were perfectly trained? Probably not....therefore, it mirrors that effect. Also, pentathletes draw a random horse that they have never seen in their life, so this judges how well they can ride. I hope this helps.

In the modern pentathlon, the competitors are given horses they have never ridden before. So, unlike the show jumping and eventing riders and horses, they have not developed the trust between rider and horse needed to excel at jumping. The riders don't know the horse's gaits, strides, or quirks, what they're likely to spook at or have difficulty with. The horses don't know if the riders are going to run them into the fence or direct them over it.

That is part of the challenge.
