Question:

K12 Homeschooling Online?

Is there a program for high schoolers(homeschooling) similar to K12's program? The one for Texas only goes up to 8th grade, and I'll be enrolling for 11th grade.

I saw that they have a high school program for internationals, but can people in the US enroll in that program?

Any advice is really appreciated :)

  1. i hate homeschool its for people who are  going to become antisocial.i enrolled in connections academy because i didnt like the school i was going to go to when i moved.and i started talking less to all my friends because its so time consuming...

  2. Although the state run K12 program may stop at grade 8, K12 materials can be purchased privately and used on your own.

  3. K12's high school courses are now part of the IAcademy, as far as I know.  I've used K12 for over five years and have a need for some high school courses now.  There's been a lot of discussion about it on the K12 Yahoo Groups.

Yes, those in the US can enroll in IA as full-time, or part-time students.  The part-time course cost has gone up $25/semester in price from when K12 was offering thier high school courses separate from IA.  They still might be.  On one group, we're waiting on the official word from K12 as to whether independent users of K12 can just purchase the courses.

One caveat - the courses are ALL teacher-led, unlike K12's K-8 courses.  The parent acts only as mentor.

Another thing, K12's courses are really Apex courses, with a few "K12-ized" offerings.  So it makes more sense just to go through Apex.

TXVA is a PUBLIC school.  If you were to do online school with K12 or Apex, or any other school, it's going to be private, meaning the money will come out of your pocket, not the government's.  There is no public online high school in Texas.

Most online high school courses run $350/semester/course and on up.  There are additional fees also for enrollment, materials, etc.

  4. Here some info on other computer based or online programs:
