  1. You should be fine. Karate pants usually come with either a draw string or an elastic waistband. The website probably says which one you're ordering. In either case, the difference in waist size between a 135 lbs 6' man and a 170 lbs 6' man will be minimal (3-4 inches, maybe).

If you're really concerned, you can always get them altered (if they're too big) or you can place separate orders (size 5 gi and size 4 pants).

As a side note, loose pants in the legs is better for kicking higher. However, if they show everyone your a$$, then it's all for not. Maybe tie your white belt a little tighter ;)

    Hope that helps!

  2. Don't worry about the pant length, just get something that will fit your waist.  I've never seen anyone who didn't need to hem the pants, they're made for giants!  Even if they are short, that's good for karate because you don't want your toes to get caught in your cuffs.  You'll probably be good in a size 4.

Get a jacket to fit your height.  Again, the sleeves may need to be taken in, but you want the right length otherwise it will look really dumb if you only have an inch of jacket under your belt.  Do doubt so size 5.

Ask your sensei.  I know my sensei keeps a supply of uniforms at the dojo and will let you try something on for size before you make an order.  Plus, after 25 years, he's pretty good at telling what someone will fit into just by looking at them.

  3. Kenpo there is right.  You want your gi to fit somewhat lose so that your body moves within it a little.  That way you will be able to do your kicks, punches, strikes, and blocks without being hampered by your uniform especially if it is to tight or snug.  Get one with a draw string waist and also roll the sleeves up for your arms if you need to and for the top you can take the ties all the way in before you tie them and that will give you a good fit with your belt helping to gather it in at your waist.

  4. buy a jacket one size...and buy pants another size. century martial arts supply lets you do this.

its always better to go too big than too small. you can always have them brought in by a seamstress or something.
