Kata Beach is great because its a small beach town close to Phuket and much quieter. Club Med has a hotel there. Kata beach has  a row of bars mostly small "here today gone tomorrow" bars. Try the Indian restaurant  at the cross roads which turn right into Phuket town. At the other end of the main road is a local restaurant that sells lunch fish curry and vegetables for only 30 Baht.(about $1). The bar next to the Indian place is pretty friendly too.

Woraburi Phuket Resort is a great hotel in Kata area. We specially recommend the rooms with pool access. That is pure luxury! Relatively cheap and great value for the money. I stay in 4 and 5 star hotels all over the world and from my perspective, this hotel was surprisingly good in every way. Great restaurants next door and Massage. Fresh fruit cart on the corner.

Kata beach has clear blue water and gorgeous white sand. There is the same sort of shopping there as in Patong but it is not as busy. Patong beach is not nearly as nice. It costs about 300 baht to travel to patong from Kata and takes about 15min.

KATA BEACH IS A GREAT ONE TO GO FOR.WILL ADVISE U TO GET THERE IN THE  MORNING BY 9 BY A BUS AND THEN WALK DOWN TO KARON AND PATONG BEACH.22 KMS IS NOT MUCH.

I have lived in Phuket for 20 years and whenever friends or family come over they always choose Kata Beach. For Hotels there is a wide price range to choose from, for restaurants again plenty to choose from. However the best thing about Kata is it's location, making it easy to get to other beaches and attractions.

Kata is less commercial, and a lot quieter than Patong, the beach is a lot more attractive than Karon Beach, and you can easily find a long-tail boat to take you to different beaches or islands, such as Bon Island (see link below) where you can get away from the crowds.
