Kawaki ZZR 600 Oil Change?

When reading the manual of my 2003 Kaw ZZR 600 (ZX6E)

It states not change the oil FILTER, have Kawasaki tech do that. Anyone happen to know why? It tells you its ok to change the oil, just not the filter.

  1. Some of these bike have the filter in such an odd place, you may have to remove the exhaust from the headers to access it. That's not the average "do it yourselfer" type of job. I'd say look at it and if you can get to it, go ahead and remove it. nothing special about it. I own a ZX6E myself and do it all the time. Just cover the pipes with a towel before you do it because you will get some spillage.

be sure to lube the rubber gasket of the new filter with fresh oil and pour about 2 or 3 cap full of fresh oil in the center chamber. This way the bike is starved for lube when dry starting after the change.
