I have a Top Secret Clearance, I was fired from my job making $62.000 a year to nothing, my car was repossed because of this. WIll I lose my clearance when reinvestigation comes around, and is it possible for the govt to reinvestigate me before my 5 year anniversary is up?

  1. i think if you check the same time you was fired your clearance was pulled!!!  clearance are tied to the job/postion so no job no need for clearance!!!

  2. I am not sure if you will lose your clearance, but I think so.  I'm not sure what their reasoning would be for re-investigation would be?  You need to check with someone more familiar with these type of things, or ask someone closer to this situation.

  3. Why were you fired? It takes a lot to be dismissed from a govt job that requires a clearance. Is there a possibility that you were negligent in your duties? At this point the secret clearance is gone. Just a harsh fact.

  4. Reinvestigation will not come around.  Security checks are very expensive and no one is going to pay for a reinvestigation for somebody who is not working in a job requiring the clearance.

What will happen is, when you apply for a job in a military unit, government agency or civilian contractor, tomorrow or twenty years from now, they will request a background check.  The investigators will start with your last check, no matter how long ago, and go forward from there.  They will find your firing and get the circumstances.  They will find that you have had financial problems as evidenced by the repo.  Whether they give you a new clearance depends on the details.  I am not going to try to guess.
