Question:

Kentucky Derby's Best Mudder?

Okay, our family is having this small bet type thing on the Kentucky Derby. Some of my family voted for Big Brown, but I've heard he's a horrible mudder. I've heard Pyro and Visionaire are good, but who is the best mudder? Please have an educated guess, not, "Big Brown because he's won before,". Since I'm the youngest, I really want to surprise them by winning. Besides, they're putting $50.00 in each! Who is the best mudder? Thanks for your (serious) answers!

  1. I don't know who is the "best mudder" but Cool Coal Man, Visionaire, Smooth Air and Denis of Cork have all won over sloppy tracks.  Pyro had a good second place finish over a very sloppy track in last year's Breeder's Cup Juvenile.  Tale of Ekati, Big Truck and Z Humor have all run poorly on sloppy tracks.  Big Brown hasn't raced in the mud yet, so nobody knows how he'll do in the slop.

The Churchill track is supposed to be dry, though, by post time for the Derby.

  2. Visionaire is your horse if you're looking for a mudder.  He won recently in New York in a slop-fest.  Good closing speed on this horse too.  But don't bet on it being a wet track today - Churchill dries out quickly and it'll be a fast track come 6:00 with the sun\wind they're getting today.
