Question:

Kitty cold, what to do?

Hi, I think my kitty has a cold. He's a year old. His nose is wet, more damp than usual. He's sneezed a few times. Is this a serious thing? Should I take him to the vet right away for meds, or can I wait a couple weeks?

He's still his normal active self.

I wonder if there's anything I can do, home remedies to help him.

Thanks,

George

  1. When they start sneezing thats a warning sign of a URI upper respiratory infection he will need antibiotics.. Home remedies will be useless.  Also get a Pet-Temp thermometer(don't worry you use in the ear not the other place) making it easy to use. They cost about 39.99 at petsmart or go  to www.pet-temp.com I bought one today cuz i have 7 cat 4 of them are kittens the normal temp for dogs cats kittens is usually between 100.0 and 103.0 any thing higher would indicate a fever. He needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible.

  2. Umm my cat has had that problem it acts normal and sneezes give it a bit of time but if it turns out bad bring it to the vet ^_^

  3. If he is acting normal he should be ok, keep an eye on him. A wet nose is better than a dry nose.

  4. This could be a sign of an allergy. Check his ears for discharge and keep an eye on him. Usually when a cat has an allergy, there are little signs of lethargy.

It could even be something as simple as a piece of his own fur caught in his nose and making him sneeze.

  5. cats can get colds - its called cat flu, but is generally associated with a discharge from the eyes as well.

Bear in mind though - his nose could be wet cause he has been l*****g it, and cats sneeze when they are not sick just as we do.

if you are worried take him in to be checked, but unless he appears unwell in behaviour or there is discharge (esp coloured) from the eyes as well as sneezing I would keep an eye on him and see how he goes

    :-)

*edit* and fyi.. wet nose/dry nose indicating animal health really is a bit of a myth - when you take your animal to a vet they dont see a dry nose and immediately schedule blood tests etc. they generally think hmm.. maybe the animal hasnt licked its nose lately. Condition of the nose and gum colour will tell you more :)

  6. just take him to the vet and they will prescibe you medicine
