Kiwis hopeful of retaining Allan Donald
Allan Donald will most likely continue as New Zealand’s bowling coach after fast bowler, Craig McDermott, has been announced Australia’s bowling coach.
The former South African pacer was interviewed by Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 for the assignment as a bowling coach but the final verdict was given in favour of McDermott. Donald is currently in Australia and could not be contacted by media.
The Black Caps will have a sigh of relief after that news and will be anticipating Donald to continue as a bowling coach with them.
The director of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808, is hopeful that Donald will continue with them with 60-40 chances.
Donald was the spearhead of the South African pace bowling attack and had brought them quite a few victories until he retired from cricket in 2003.
He has played 72 Test matches, has taken 330 wickets, at an excellent average of 22.25 runs per wicket with the best of 8 for 71 in an innings and 12 for 139 in a match.
Donald appeared in 164 One Day Internationals (ODI) and has grabbed 272 wickets at a healthy average of 21.78 runs per wicket with best figures of 6 for 23 runs.
The ICC cricket committee meeting is currently being held in London and NZC chief executive, Justin Vaughan, is participating in it. He is doing his best along with Coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Wright-c69045, to retain the services of the former world’s fastest bowler.
Buchanan informed that NZC has increased their initial offer and they have gone to the maximum, which can be afforded by them, as they have limited resources as compared to CA.
"They [Australia] have the capacity to [offer more money]. That may be one part of it. I don't know exactly what they're offering but I'm suggesting we've got finite resources and CA's depth of resources is a little bit more than that. But in the conversations
that Justin and John have had with Allan, I think we've put our best foot forward. So it's really back in his court".
It was John Wright, who initially convinced Donald to join with them in the home series against the visiting Pakistani side in January, 2011.
He took the responsibility as a bowling coach of a depleted New Zealand side and led them to the heights of cricket in short time. He generated confidence in their bowling, especially youngsters, Tim Southee, and, Hamish Bennett, learned much from him.
The Black caps responded well and demonstrated attacking cricket by qualifying for the semi-final spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
New Zealand fast bowler, Bennett, was very impressed with Donald as he was an inspiration for him and the rest of the bowlers. He revealed that it will be a sad moment if Donald leaves them.
NZC is hopeful that after the appointment of McDermott, as Australian bowling coach, they will be able to retain Donald in their camp.
