Kuyt picks up shoulder injury
Liverpool midfield and forward player Dirk Kuyt has picked up a shoulder injury while on international duty for the Netherlands.
Kuyt sprained his shoulder during a Holland training session held ahead of a European qualifying match with Finland. The Dutchman has been sent back to Liverpool but fears are that he could spend a number of weeks in the rehabilitation room at Anfield.
Holland coach Bert van Marwijk said: "He will probably have a few weeks off and he will step on to the plane to Liverpool. He pulled some ligaments in his shoulder and maybe some are torn."
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson will now have a headache as his club are already short of attacking players to lead Liverpool's front line in the Premier League. The club have to nurse Kuyt back to health because he is one of the more influential players at Liverpool.
Nursed back to health
Injuries to players while they are away on international duty are common. Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp will sympathise with Hodgson because of a knee injury to Spurs defender Michael Dawson.
Liverpool must take care of Kuyt and take all of the precautions needed to make sure the injury does not get any worse. It will be very tempting for the club to try and rush him back because of the lack of attacking players Liverpool currently possess.
Hodgson will be very annoyed that the player has picked up an injury while on duty for Holland. However, it is something that Liverpool can do nothing about. They must continue to support Kuyt and make sure that he has all of the facilities necessary to get back to full fitness.
The options for Liverpool are now quite limited. Hodgson risks alienating Joe Cole if he asks the former Chelsea man to play out wide. Cole has already said that he only wants to play in a central role for Liverpool. The only other option is to place another outfield player on the right who may not be suited to the position.

Kuyt has the ability to make things tick in the Liverpool team. He also pops up with a goal every now and then. Wait to see what Hodgson does because he could ask a number of players to play out of position.
