L.P.G fuel conversion?

Question

i have a v6 shogun 3 liter petrol,thinking of getting a L.P.G converstion to the car. i live in Humberside in the uk and wanted to ask a few things really,

one: will i lose power not so bothered about top end speed but pulling power.

two:i get about 45 to 55 miles for a tenner in it, will i save much?

three: where do i fill up?is they many stations around me that i will be able to use?

i have no idea what a gallon is so can not say what i get for a gallon sorry.

i just want to know because, i do love my beat up old 4x4 and i know it's a gas drinking swine which is not good for the ozone would you get it done or go out and get a disel

The diesel would be the way to go, especially in a 4 X 4.

Bio-diesel is getting more abundant, you can even make it yourself, its more enviro friendly and the real benefit of having a diesel engine is it inherantly produces a LOT more torque which means pulling power.

You're in diesel engine rich country as opposed to the backwards US so making the switch should be very do-able.

The state of Texas used dual fuel vehicles in the TxDOT ( hi-way dept) for several years.The cost factor ,using factory installed units was no better than conventional fueled vehicles,and the emmissions were no different. The program is being phased out as manufactures are now charging for installation of system as an after market option .Advantages for LPG none,...George

I just wanted to say my Dad converted to LPG and it nearly ruined his car, he had to had it removed (although I cannot say what the problem is and as he works night I cannot contact him). So I thought I'd let you know there can be side effects.

25 years or so ago L.P.G. started to catch on and guess what, someone told the chancellor how much tax he was loosing and so it was taxed more and people forgot about it. You loose about 10% engine power but it is not really noticeable in normal driving. I have driven cars and transits which were converted. The only time it was noticeable was on hill starts when you needed to give it a bit more, so you could notice it a bit if you are towing a lot. The other thing is where you store the tank. Many garages stock it these days. If you are going to do it do it now for the benefit, once sales pick up, so will the tax.

had my s class merc done, the tank only hold 60Lt's of LPG and it gives me a range of 260miles, i don't get much more mpg out of it but the cost of filling up is half, i did not lose ANY power at all still pulls away fast and top end not affected either. majority of bp garages now have an LPG pump although they are still pretty useless at having full supplies, i also find that sainsbury are v good at supplying it but u will have to check out your local store, my advice would be if you are not a high mileage user it will take u a long time to make your money back. my conversion cost me £2000 but its fully automatic in switching over and very good.

At the moment LPG is virtually half the price of petrol but obviously will get more expensive as the demand for it becomes greater.

Most conversions will require you to start up and run on petrol until the engine has warmed up so you will have a dual tank which means you can fill up with petrol if you cannot find a garage that sells LPG.

Make sure whoever does the conversion is registered with the LPG association
