LED ................ (what?)?

i am meant to be googling something for my electronics class, but my mind has completely blanked and i have forgotten what it is. what is it called when you have a line or a ring of LED's and they each turn on consecutively? i think it might start with an "R" ...or is it"C"...? pls help!
