  1. Solar power is not necessarily expensive.

You can actually build a working solar power system for under $200.

You can use this to power things like lights, laptops, TVs and basically anything you have in your home.

  2. Great and thanks for trying to help the planet also!!  Solar would be great for this application.  If you want it on the roof you need a clear southern facing roofline.  Or just for stables pending on how much light you need you may get by with a pole mounted solar system.  I dont have the site in front of me but if you get back to me i can forward you to one.  Look at www.jointhesolution.com/goodlight and see what this company is offering.  It would work for your stables and your home and they have a plan that is great for new solar setups that makes it affodable for anyone.  Pending on how soon you need something.  Get back to me one way or the other and i know i can help you thanks, Curt

  3. Yes  -you can.

In the winter months you may need to top-up with a battery charger.

Use a car battery, and a solar charging panel. Make sure you use LED lighting or very low wattage lights to make it last longer.

There are some very nice downlighters these days using LED's.
