LS1 on 1988 land rover defender

I am planning to convert 1988 land rover defender OEM Engine to LS1, if any one can help me.

  1. There will be a lot of work, money, and fabrication involved. It's not just a pull and drop project.

    More than likely, you will need to...

    1) Change motor mounts

    2) Change the ECM (engine computer)

    3) Check all clearences for proper fit (possibly cutting the frame, changing the radiator, etc...)

    4) Change all sensors (O2, TPS, etc...)

    5) Since the Land Rover is a 4x4, you will possibly have to make, buy, or figure out some way to hook up the LS1 to the Rover's 4WD transfer case and transmission. This includes linkages, brackets, etc... This is probably the most difficult thing to do.

    6) Depending on the weight of the old motor compared to the LS1, different springs and shocks for the suspension may be needed because ride quality may be affected.

    This is just a small list, and there are probably several other things that would have to be considered.
