LSA Aircraft?

Im only 17 years old, and I was just wondering, because I was recently watching the red bull air race reruns. I'm very interested in this sport, or whatever you want to call it. Does anyone know how to get into it because i would love to do this. I already have my pilots license and sport aircraft license. And if you know approximately how much they cost because i would love to own one for my weekend flights. I currently fly my Cessna 172SP, which is fun, but just cant do many aerobatic maneuvers it, and its kinda slow maxing out at around 150 kph.

  1. Well, go out and get an Extra 300 or Edge 540 and hook up with an experienced aerobatic instructor.   It shouldnt set you back more than about a million dollars (inlcudes the aircraft, spare parts, support team, travel expenses, training) and find a sponsor to cover the rest, along with a huge life insurance policy.

BTW, LSA stands for light sport aircraft, which are typically less capable than your 172SP.   Most, if not all the pilots in the Red Bull air races have military training and fighter expereince, so perhaps a stint in the air force would help.

In the mean time, get a job and go to college.

  2. If you've got a spare 2-3 million bucks laying around with nothing better to do, then you too could try your hand at airplane racing.  It's not a sport for amateurs, or people who need a steady paycheck.
