Ladies European Tour announces 2013 schedule
The Ladies European Tour (LET) has announced its 2013 schedule, with 23 tournaments scheduled to be held over the season.
According to the new Tour schedule unveiled on Thursday, the tournaments will be staged in almost every continent. With Australia, Asia, Africa and America selected for venues, the LET battle will typically culminate in Dubai—at the 2013 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
The Tour will start in Australia where players are set to participate at the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters, in February.
Executive Director of LET, Alexandra Armas, said while speaking to the media that the tournaments will almost be the same as the previous year, but the officials will announce more events later in the year.
“With 23 tournaments already confirmed at the time of going to press, we are hopeful of making additional tournament announcements in the near future which will further strengthen the playing schedule," Armas said.
The Tour has already planned to hold a new event at Vasatorp Golf Club, at Helsingborg, Sweden. Officials said that the new tournament is sure to further boost the Tour’s image.
Moreover, the Tour will also hold tournaments on several new courses. These venues include Colorado Golf Club in the United States, Royal Canberra Golf Club, Australia, Southbroom Golf Club in South Africa, Golf Park Plzen in the Czech Republic and The International, Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
Armas further said that the LET has long been seeking to introduce more new tournaments, but the 2013 season will see the plans get underway. He said that in order to lure more young players to the Tour, it is crucial to expand the scope of the Tour.
“The Ladies European Tour remains in a strong position and we are in discussion with a number of major corporations, national tours and federations who are all keen to work with the Tour”.
The first tournament of the season—Volvik RACV Ladies Masters 2013—is expected to make a promising start. The tournament roster will feature most of the big names that also include Karrie Webb of Australia.
Webb, who has been a prominent player on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, is making a return to the LET after a big break.
