The 27-year old defender had been linked with a move to Villa Park ever since he publicly stated his desire to join the club, especially after holding talks with Aston Villa's boss Paul Lambert.
Vlaar spoke with Lambert over the weekend, discussing the possibility of a move. It is believed that Vlaar was impressed by Lambert’s vision for the club and his plans to drive Villa out of mediocrity and back to the stature of a top 6 Premier League side.
Lambert has already acquired http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-El-Ahmadi-c20353 this summer. The manager has also talked about a possible move for Liverpool’s out of favour striker Andy Carroll.
Aston Villa are clearly on the road to recovery after a poor season in the English top flight.
Recently, the Scot expressed his desire to sign Vlaar. The defender had also stirred up great hype about the move by talking to the Dutch press about how a move to Villa would be a ‘dream come true’.
It was also believed that Villa will be looking to offload http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Cuellar to Sunderland.
Lambert confirmed meeting with Vlaar, but has played down a possible move for the player by stating that there is still a long time to go before anything is confirmed.
Speaking to the English press, Lambert said:
"Ron came over and we had a chat with him, that's basically where it's been left, there's nothing imminent at all. I spoke to the guy and he's a really top bloke and a very good player. We'll see what happens. I just had a chat with the guy, that's all it
was.”
"I honestly don't know if anyone else is interested in him. I had a chat with him the other day and he was great, everything's fine.”
"I know what type of character he is and we'll need to see what happens. I'll have a chat with the people here.”
"I've not put any ground rules down, nothing at all, it was just a chat."
